Guía de Pintura - Painting Guide. Napoleonic British Highlanders

This post is the first of a series of painting guides. For this post two scales 1/72 and 1/32 were used. The 1/72 scale miniatures will be part of my British army for Impetus Grandeur, while the 1/32 miniatures is part of my Sharp Practice 2 force.

Since I have to paint several complete armies with lots of miniatures I prefer a painting method as fast as possible, applying base colors and later make use of inks. Normally I do not apply lights after the inks to save time and because I like the dirty and campaign aspect that they have left to the miniatures.

Como pintar el Kilt - How to paint the Kilt

The form of painting will depend on the sculpting of the miniature, in our case the miniatures of 1/72 of Strelets already have the square marked and it will only be necessary to follow the tartan of the kilt. However, in 1/32 miniatures as well as 28mm miniatures the kilt does not come sculpted so we will have to paint it by hand.

In this case I have opted to paint both units as members of the 42nd Highland Regiment, the Black Watch.

Es hora de las Tintas! - It's Ink Time!

Once painted all the basic colors of the miniatures it's time to use inks. Generally for scales 28mm or higher I use the ink corresponding to the base color. That is, red ink for red base, brown ink for browns, skin, etc. While for lower scales (1/72, 15mm) I use black ink for the whole miniature.

Tintas utilizadas - Inks used

Black Ink - Nuln Oil - GW, applied to the entire miniature.

Baseado - Basing

For the bases of 1/72 and below I like to use Super Fine basing Grit from Gale Force Nine. While for larger scales I use sandbeach of Huelva, a large tupper that I collected 4 years ago and I still have more than half. Later I paint with different tones of brown, lights and use different herbs, shrubs, etc.

Historia del Regimiento - History of the Regiment

When I use large bases of movement or the miniatures go in bases type Impetus I like to put under the base the history of the regiment or unit that represent. For this I use Microsoft Publishers, creating a template and writing the history of the regiment. Then I print, plasticize and stick under the base.
